Reflective Artist Statement: Video Assignment

I believe it is very important to preserve, promote and enrich your heritage. Many people around the world do in fact preserve, promote and enrich their heritage. Who you are as a person comes from your heritage, my point is that everyone should try to preserve, promote enrich their heritage throughout their daily lives by doing good deeds, community events and gatherings and other activities. In my video I tried to preserve, enrich, and promote my heritage by inviting people to and attending the annual Northern Ohio Lebanese American Association annual heritage ball where my fellow Lebanese Americans that live in the Cleveland, Ohio area were honored for their high achievements and high aspirations. These kind of events bring people together and form new relationships of people from the same heritage. During the Annual Ball I interviewed some of the board members asking them about their heritage and why their heritage is so important in their daily lives. Lebanese Americans try to promote and preserve their heritage, like many other nationalities around the world. It helps bring people together to form new relationships, helps celebrate out past time and it enriches our community sense of mind. Heritage is an important part of everyone’s lives.

I have captured all the video I need, however, I was unable so far to import these files into Adobe premiere Pro 1.0 I am working on it now so that I can edit my video and make it into one whole piece.

Video Assignment Proposal

My first pitch for my video assignment is to make a movie about the significance of McDonald’s restaurants in the United States. The significance of this topic for my video project is to show people how common people eat McDonald’s instead of healthy food. My preliminary plans for this assignment is to research all about McDonald’s. I will research the healthiness of McDonald’s food. Then I will interview random people that eat McDonald’s regularly and ask them questions about their diet and how much they eat McDonald’s. I will then capture on video the amount of people that come in and eat at a local McDonald’s. I will choose a specific consumer filled McDonald’s location.

My second pitch for my video assignment is to make a movie about the greatness of the city of Cleveland. I will capture all the highlights that Cleveland has to offer and show people that Cleveland is not a dead boring city. I will capture all the fun attractions Cleveland has like the rock and roll hall of fame and West 6th strip of night clubs. The significance of this video assignment is to show people that Cleveland is a good city and it has all the components of being an upstanding city. My goal is to change all negative opinions about he city of Cleveland. My preliminary steps is to travel through Cleveland and target all the places that make Cleveland a nice upstanding city. Then I will pinpoint which areas of Cleveland I will shoot in my video. Then I will interview random people roaming the streets of Cleveland and ask them how they feel about their hometown. I may ask them what makes Cleveland so nice and upstanding.

My intention for this assignment was to explain to my audience that the country of Lebanon is a tourist-friendly country. My audience is anyone interested in traveling. A tourist-friendly country is a country that has an appreciation for the company of other people and love for tourists. With appreciation comes an effort to provide tourists with fun attractions to do in their country. Some of the main attractions tourist-friendly countries offers include many restaurants, nightclubs and beach resorts. The top tourist countries in the world provide an atmosphere that is fun and comfortable for travelers. My argument is to show that Lebanon, located in the Middle East, is one of the few tourist-friendly countries in the world. One stereotype people have in the western hemisphere of the world is that all countries in the Middle East are poor developing countries that are nowhere near having an atmosphere fitting for tourists. The truth is that only some countries in the Middle East are not fit for tourism because their countries are too undeveloped to have nice restaurants, nightclubs and beach resorts that attract most tourists. However, Lebanon is fortunately a country in the Middle East that has the fun attractions and peaceful atmosphere that gives them the token of being a tourist-friendly country.

I think that my three images do a good job proving that Lebanon is in fact a tourist-friendly country. My first image explains that Lebanon has many restaurants suited for tourists because there is something for everyone. Lebanon offers all the restaurants that tourists have in their home land. For example, Lebanon has all the fast food restaurants that other countries have such as Burger King, McDonalds and Subway so when tourists travel to Lebanon, they don’t have to change what they eat just because they leave home. The second image explains that Lebanon is filled with nice nightclubs, which is one of the main reasons for tourism. Lebanon is one of the top party scenes in the world. This is a big reason why there are two million tourists visiting Lebanon every year. The last image shows that there are many beaches and beach resorts in Lebanon for tourists to attend. Lebanon has warm weather all year long on the coast so tourists can travel to Lebanon any time of the year to swim and get a tan. My argument concludes that Lebanon is of the top tourist-friendly countries in the world because it provides something for every tourist. Lebanon appreciates all other company that enters the country because the country is dedicated to make things fun and comfortable for tourists.

I really like the Cop Watch documentary video despite having a little trouble seeing some scenes in the video shot during the night. I believe the video and its creators have a valid argument to get across to the audience, and I think they did a nice job conveying their message. People really need to know that there are police officers that think they are above the law and that they can do anything on the job even if it’s cruel. People need to know that there is police brutality and there are police officers that are racist and will take advantage of their power through racist actions. I know some people might think that the people making the video are rude and disrespectful to police officers in general because they think the video addresses all cops. However, I don’t think that’s the case in this video. Everyone knows there are good cops out there and most cops are good. But, the video is just trying to explain to the audience that there are a few bad cops out there and you should be aware. You should be aware of your rights as a citizen and not let bad cops take advantage of you. Also, it’s a fact that people can observe cops during their act of duty as long as you don’t get in the way of the cops job so following the officers in the video was not against the law in any way.

This picture will support my visual argument because it shows that when looking at a Mercedes Benz car, you are more pulled towards getting this car than other cars like a KIA just because of the Title “Mercedes Benz” it is given but in reality the car’s appearance is not much better than the KIA in the other picture. I might manipulate this picture by placing a man next to the car who has a face expression of shock when looking at the Mercedes Benz car.

This picture supports my visual argument because it shows that car looks are not as important than who is inside the car driving and who is sitting in the passenger seat. I might manipulate this picture by having a bunch of people surround the car so that the car can barely be seen indicating that human beings are more important than objects.

This picture also supports my visual argument because it shows that there are many cars in the world parked next to you that are better or worse than your car so it really doesn’t matter what car you have all that matters is that it gets you from point A to point B. I might manipulate this picture by placing a rich American figure next to the car showing that you don’t have to have the best car to be an important person in society.
